The reality of being physically assaulted in today’s world, is that it excludes no one and happens everywhere. There are many schools and trainers that have developed systems of reality based training, that’s designed to be learned by most individuals in a relative short period of time. These programs have many names, but are closely associated or directly derived from military combative training.
Kinchen Martial Arts has developed a combatives program that employs similar tactics and is designed to be learned and utilized by the average law abiding citizen; with limited or no previous training.

What Will YOU Learn?
We deal with attacks and scenarios that are statistically commonplace in the urban environment of the United States, not the military combat zone. Crimes committed with a variety of weapons, to include firearms are prevalent in our society. Active shooter scenarios are becoming all too common, with no training offered to teach awareness of, or reaction to these situations. We focus heavily on the common attacks and realistic threats to ours and our family and friends safety.
We teach adaptable techniques (tools) and fluid theories, not “one size fits all” techniques for every situation. These techniques will include unarmed and armed training. In this way, you learn quickly, ensuring your skills can adapt to unknown threats and situations. When confronted with a new threat, you do not freeze, you ADAPT.
As your training kicks in, you will simply follow the theories we use to deal with the threat you face. All theories and techniques that we teach must work against an opponent who is noncompliant. We drill with high intensity, understanding that combat is never stagnant in any conflict.

How Will YOU Learn?
Our combatives program uses a simple approach to learning through demonstration, performance, and repetition. The most effective defense against most types of assaults will become second nature and automatic, so in an actual confrontation they will be called upon immediately.
Techniques and training methods emphasize the ability to function from a poor state of readiness, and to transition from a passive to aggressive state instantaneously in order to survive. We will use realistic scenarios, to teach students how to operate under stress.
Our program teaches close-combat. This is a more advanced and sophisticated phase of the training, incorporating elements related to the actual performance of the fight including tactics, feints, combinations of different attacks, the psychological of fighting, and using the environment to your advantage.

Why is combative training different from traditional/modern martial arts?
Martial arts are not predominantly concerned with self-preservation; as much as it is with character development. Many of the techniques in traditional martial arts take time to develop or are not as practical in certain circumstances.
When training for self-defense, you have to consider the adrenal stress that will inevitably happen. When you are very scared and full of adrenaline you need techniques that are going to work with as little modification as possible. You will experience the loss of fine motor skills during an encounter, and techniques will often fail if practiced without consideration for the stress that will be present. We try to put more pressure on our students, so they can learn to function better under stress.
